How to Set up LTI Integration with Blackboard

This article shows you how to install EXAMIND using LTI in Blackboard.

Preface

Below are the instructions for installing EXAMIND into Blackboard, applicable to both Blackboard Classic and Ultra versions.

Steps:

1. Registering the EXAMIND LTI Tool in Blackboard

2. Enabling LTI tools

3. Creating an Assessment using EXAMIND

Step 1: Registering the EXAMIND LTI Tool in Blackboard

To access the Blackboard Administrator Panel, log in with your administrator account and go to Admin > LTI Tool Providers. Once you're in the LTI Tool Providers panel, click on Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool to proceed.

The Client ID will differ depending on whether you're connecting to EXAMIND's US Data Center or Canadian Data Center. Please contact support@examind.io to request the Client ID.

After submitting, you will see the Modify LTI 1.3 Tool: EXAMIND panel, where most fields will be automatically filled. Make sure to set the Domain correctly to either lti.examind.io or lti-ca.examind.io. The tool status should be set to Approved.

Please save the deployment ID and send it to your EXAMIND representative.

Under Institution Policies, all options will be selected. This includes Role in Course, Name, Email Address, along with select Yes for Allow grade service access and Allow Membership Service Access.

Select Submit

By default, a placement and deployment will be automatically set up for the EXAMIND LTI tool. The placement is configured as a Deep Linking content tool with student access. This setup should be sufficient, but if you need to provide access to different users, you can customize another placement by selecting the EXAMIND LTI from the LTI Provider Tools list and accessing the Manage Placements option from the dropdown menu.

Step 2. Enable LTI Tools

Step 2.1 Enable LTI Tools in the Administrator Panel

To enable LTI tools in Blackboard, you can do so by accessing the admin panel, finding the Tools and Utilities card (located on the lower right-hand side of the page), and selecting the tools option.

Navigate to the LTI section and ensure all options are set to ON.

Select Submit.

Step 2.2 Enable LTI Tools in a course (Blackboard classic)

In Blackboard Classic, it is important to make sure that LTI Tools are activated in every course. This can be confirmed by either an administrator or the course instructor.

Navigate to Customization in the left hand menu, and select Tool Availability

Ensure that both LTI and LTI Link are enabled.

Step 3: Create an Assessment using EXAMIND

Step 3a: Blackboard Ultra

Go to a course and locate the Course Content section in the middle of the page. Click on the plus icon to add content and then select Content Market from the options available.

In the Content Market, Institution tools will be located in the lower pane. Find the tool labelled Assessment. This will open the EXAMIND LTI Tool.

Create a new course in Examind with matching criteria to the current course.

Step 3b: Blackboard Classic

Navigate to a course, and select Content in the left hand tab.

Select Build Content > Assessment. This will open the EXAMIND LTI.

Create a new course in EXAMIND with matching criteria to the current course.
